Army reserve is an option for those that want to serve in tandem with their current job. It allows the opportunity to learn military skills of discipline and teamwork for everyday life, as well as upskilling in the medical skills, weapons systems and military tactics amongst much more.

General enlistment -competitions ran sporadically throughout the year in various barracks. Applicants will be required to complete an interview, a psychometric evaluation, a medical and fitness assessment.

As with all ranks, you will have healthcare and dental cover, physiotherapy, supplementary accommodation, and food provided at minimal cost.

The army will support individuals if they choose to upskill educationally by sending them to re-do their leaving certificate, or even paying them to complete a variety of apprenticeships. The army will run courses to provide individuals with licenses in vehicles from a car to an artic lorry. Individuals can also become personal training instructors through the army. There is also the opportunity to upskill in military particular tactics and elements if an individual so wishes and an array of competitions at home, and abroad.

There is also the opportunity to go overseas and return home in a very good position to purchase a house which is so difficult for current generations. The army is an eco system of its own with everything from snipers, drivers, barbers, scuba diving, office clerks, medics, bomb disposal and everything in between.

Cadetship is the final entry point, with much the same benefits and entry requirements, however there is either requirement for a leaving certificate or a level 7 from a third level institution or an international equivalent.

On completion of an 18 month cadetship you will be paid €45,000 pa, rising significantly annually. You will be an officer after this so you will be offered the opportunity to choose a course for 4 years in university of your choice. During which the army will cover your accommodation and tuition as well as receiving your entire wage. There is then the opportunity to pursue a masters further along in your career, which again, is catered for by the Defence Forces
