APPLICATIONS WITHOUT SPECIFIC DEADLINES
PLC / Further Education
Applications for PLC/Further Education courses are made directly to the college/school and they can have different closing dates.
While some may have closed for new applications, many PLC and Further Education Colleges accept applications on an ongoing basis and sometimes until late August, subject to the availability of places. But if you are interested in a specific course, contact the college/school as soon as possible to enquire about applying for a specific course.
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
There is no universal application system or deadline for apprenticeship or traineeship programmes.
You can enquire about both apprenticeships and traineeships from your local Education and Training Board. Your local ETB contact details are

Grades and CAO offers Mid to Late August
While specific dates are not determined yet, the Government hopes that the 2020 Leaving Certificate results and subsequent offers will be issued as per the normal time schedule. We will publish the revised dates if/when they become available.
As a guide, this is what usually happens in mid to late August:
The Leaving Cert grades will be available through examinations.ie.
The CAO ‘round one offers’ will be made available online shortly after the grades have been made available. Applicants who have not received an offer will receive a `Statement of Application` e-mail. Minimum points required for entry to each course will be available on the CAO website, and on CareersPortal as soon as they are released. Anyone who receives an offer in the round one offers will have one week to accept the offer.
A few days after the closing date for accepting round one offers, the CAO releases ‘round two offers’ and a couple of days later will be the closing date for acceptance of those offers.
‘Available Places’ facility opens on CAO where available students can apply for a place on a course which is unfilled after all offers have been made and waiting lists have been exhausted.
September - October
Third level courses are expected to start late September or Early October, but specific dates are not yet available.
The results of Leaving Cert appeals are usually released in mid-September. The Government is working with the colleges to ensure that students who receive an upgraded CAO place after stage 1 of the appeals process can take up their place in the 2020/2021 academic year.
Students who are successful at a later stage of the appeals process and who receive an improved CAO offer, will receive a deferred offer to start their course in the 2021/22 academic year.
Students who opt to sit the Leaving Certificate examinations at a later stage (when it is safe to do so), and who receive an improved CAO offer on foot of these results, will also receive a deferred college offer to start their course in the 2021/22 academic year.
